In May 2021 we had an increase in the number of wasted appointments due to patients either not turning up for their appointments or not being available when we have tried to contact them by telephone. These missed appointments have a knock on effect to all patients meaning patients not being able to get appointments when they need them and even longer waits to get routine appointments.
We had the following missed appointments in May
- Health & Wellbeing Coach – 8 missed appointments = 4 hours of wasted time
- Physiotherapist – 2 missed appointments = 1 hour of wasted time
- GP – 11 missed appointments = 2.75 hours of wasted time
- Nurse –30 missed appointments = 7.5 hours of wasted time
In total over the past year 6.5% of all of the appointments offered by the practice were wasted by patients either not turning up for their appointments or not being available when we have tried to contact them by telephone.
We will from 1st June 2021 once again be implementing our Did Not Attend policy. Repeat offenders will be written to and if no improvement is seen will not be able to book appointments in advance. Ultimately if behaviour continues patients will be deregistered from the practice.
