We hold regular childhood immunisation clinics at our practice to help protect babies and children from serious infectious diseases. Immunisations are a safe, effective, and essential part of keeping your child healthy and preventing the spread of illness in the community.
Appointments are available throughout the year, and our clinical team is happy to answer any questions you may have.
Why Childhood Immunisation Is Important
Childhood immunisation:
- Protects your child from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases
- Helps prevent outbreaks of infections such as measles, whooping cough, and polio
- Protects vulnerable people in the community who cannot be vaccinated
- Has been proven to be safe and effective through extensive research and monitoring
By vaccinating your child on time, you are giving them the best possible protection as their immune system develops.
UK Childhood Vaccination Schedule
The UK childhood immunisation programme is recommended by the NHS and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). Vaccinations are offered free of charge and are given at specific ages to provide the best protection.
Routine Childhood Vaccinations Include:

- 6-in-1 vaccine (protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, Hib and hepatitis B)
- Rotavirus vaccine (oral)
- MenB vaccine
- Pneumococcal (PCV) vaccine
At 1 year
- Hib/MenC booster
- MMR (measles, mumps and rubella)
- Pneumococcal (PCV) booster
- MenB booster
At 3 years 4 months
- Pre-school booster (4-in-1: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio)
- Second dose of MMR
From 12–13 years
- HPV vaccine (given in school)
From 14 years
- Teenage booster (3-in-1: tetanus, diphtheria and polio)

Vaccination schedules may change as new evidence becomes available. Our practice follows the latest UK guidelines to ensure your child receives up-to-date protection.
Missed or Delayed Vaccinations
If your child has missed any vaccinations, it is never too late to catch up. Please contact the practice and we will arrange a catch-up appointment.
Declining Childhood Vaccinations
We strongly encourage all parents and carers to follow the recommended UK childhood immunisation programme to help protect their child and the wider community.
If you choose to decline one or more vaccinations for your child, a member of our clinical team will:
- Discuss the benefits and risks of immunisation
- Answer any questions or concerns you may have
- Provide evidence-based information in line with NHS and UKHSA guidance
If, after discussion, you decide not to proceed with vaccination, you will be asked to sign a vaccination refusal form. This form confirms that:
- The vaccination has been offered
- You have had the opportunity to discuss the benefits and risks
- You understand the potential health risks of declining vaccination
This process helps ensure clear communication and accurate medical records.
You may change your decision at any time. If you later wish for your child to receive vaccinations, please contact the practice and we will be happy to arrange an appointment.
