Services Outside Our NHS Contract

The National Health Service (NHS) provides most healthcare free of charge to the majority of patients; however, there are some exceptions. GPs are self-employed professionals who are contracted to provide NHS general medical services.
At times, GPs may be asked to carry out work that falls outside this NHS contract. In such cases, they are entitled to charge a reasonable fee for providing these services.
Examples of Non-NHS Work GPs May Complete:
- Insurance reports and paperwork
- Certain benefit agency reports, such as PIP and Universal Credit
- Holiday cancellation forms
- Medical reports or GP letters stating confirmed conditions, diagnoses, medications, or results (factual, not opinion or prognosis)
- Blood and transplant service reports
- Adoption/fostering medicals
- Ofsted registration reports
- Firearms Licence or Renewal Forms (factual, not opinion, prognosis or occupational health)
- Reports for solicitors
- Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Forms
- DVLA forms
- Vocational licence paperwork and medicals
- Armed Forces reports
- DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance) forms
- UK Employment/Pre-employment medicals and paperwork (factual, not opinion, prognosis or occupational health)
